Owner of the Régina Biarritz Hotel & Spa, the NERIS Group unveils a brand new address in Biarritz, in place and stead of an historic building opposite… the Régina! Flashback to the fascinating saga of this iconic place and the unusual project to transform it into a sunny, laid-back boutique hotel.
The Garage Régina is over a century of history that the people of Biarritz know well. It all began in the early 1900's when the company running the Régina Hotel sold part of its land to a trader from Toulouse wanting to build an automobile garage. A few years later, the building, distinguished by its arch-shaped door, played host to the head office of the Biarritz Aero Club, ancestor to today's Aéro-Club Basque. Then, in 1930, it became a garage again, private this time, to accommodate the luxury cars of the Régina's wealthy clients.
Before closing permanently in the early 1980's, the Garage Régina was in fact a classic garage with a repair workshop and petrol pump. It was not until 2018 that it re-opened to the public as part of the Colorama street-art exhibition. Two years later, the idea of transforming it into a boutique hotel of unabashed luxury was initiated by the NERIS Group, owner of the Régina Biarritz Hotel & Spa, just opposite.
Ten months' work were devoted to transforming the Garage Régina into a 4-star hotel. While the frontage of the iconic garage has retained all its early splendour, a holiday atmosphere now reigns inside and a slight carefreeness, reflecting the Basque country lifestyle. Signed Agnès Guiot and Pauline Minsé, the hotel's decor is unusual for an establishment of this stature, but entirely assumed. It sees itself as eclectic, casual, neo-retro, totally in the swing of things. Priority has thus been given, among other things, to raw materials such as concrete, terrazzo, and wood.
As for colours, while deep blue recalls the Atlantic, green is a nod and a wink to the golf-course. All counterbalanced by a warm palette of colours ranging from terra-cotta to red via pink, not forgetting black for vitality. Finally, industrial details scattered here and there in the hotel recall the garage style. An off-beat but fully assumed ambiance you will certainly remember.
With its 27 rooms and suites with unpolished yet refined decor, its heated outdoor pool, a terrace with colourful furnishings and gourmet restaurant, the Hôtel Le Garage Biarritz has been designed as the "new address" in Biarritz. A luxury, though affordable, hotel where one pursue one's habits and feels keen to return. The key words? Relaxation and friendliness. With its dreamy location facing the ocean, it offers an idyllic setting for a getaway, solo, as a couple, with family or friends, for a weekend or more, as you wish.
